The system now in operation has the information connection structure as follows. IHE-J Committee had completed, by the autumn of 2004, the study of clinical application in Japan mainly in the radiology department. The structure was limited to the connection of instruction information that is transmitted from the electronic medical record (the so-called upstream) to the department information system (downstream).
With this research, we aimed to complete the interoperability in the radiology department using IHE-J. New issues include mutual connection within the radiology department, connection with external medical institutions and results (images, reports, etc.) of examinations produced within the radiology department. We implemented it including the feedback to the upstream, and aimed to complete the interoperability in the radiology department.
The mere verification of system operation is not enough. What kind of problems must medical institutions solve at the time of actual introduction? We give the answer, as clear and real examples, through both real showcase and virtual showcase, and publish information.
In this research, furthermore, we complement the present implementation, and maintain the present arrangement to allow visitors to see the real showcase. In addition, we reflected the advice from Interoperability Spread Committee, and opened the virtual showcase. We make renewal of virtual showcase so that "people can see the system easily, and can obtain information easily". We substantiate its content so that we can send more related information to medical institutions that want introduction.
We aimed at smooth promotion of this research, confirmation of technical implementation situation and qualitative improvement of research. To obtain guidance and advice, we organized Implementation Validation Committee consisting of external experts who excelled in the technological knowledge of IHE-J guidelines. We received much advice and guidance. We confirmed the final implementation situation.
